4/24/14 Day 98 Saint Kevin's Way

We woke up at 6:30 when Stephen, whose yard we were camped out in called us in for morning tea afterwards he left for work and we gathered our tent area to walk next door and meet Karl and Jenny at 9:30 to drop off our stuff. In a whirlwind organizing spree we are bags packed for a three day trek and out the door with a generous ride offer up the road towards the next town. Glendalough, the days destination is about 45 kilometers from Moone and we walked around 5 kilometers towards Dunlavin before a nice woman picked us up and brought us to Hollywood (the original city). Before setting off we sat down for a pint with a really nice man who offered us a ride the next bit AND bought our beer! People are so nice here! He dropped us right at the trailhead for Saint Kevin's way, a 30 kilometer signed trail leading to the monastic ruins of Glendalough, founded by none other than Saint Kevin. We spent most of the day meandering through the forests, across the bogs and rambling up the hillsides enjoying the second beautiful day of weather in a row... in Ireland! Arriving to the top of the Wicklow Gap, where we met Jay who is a local tour guide and super helpfully suggested some great camping spots. We found a great spot by the river and will set out hiking the lake trails of the area in the morning.
