6/4/14 Day 139 Grasmere Lake Walk

We are feeling a little under the weather today, so a nice calm walk around Lake Grasmere is exactly what we want to spend our day doing. William Wordsworth, the famous poet lived here for many years and described it as the "loveliest spot that man hath ever found". We enjoyed watching a cute duck family as they passed by the spot we were having lunch on the beach, continuing on to the Grasmere Gingerbread Company, supposedly the world's best gingerbread, we obviously had to sample it. Definitely as good as it claims to be! We walked by some overgrown Rhodadendrons, they are very invasive and grow as big as houses here, completely taking over forests, they are very problematic. On the way back we drive through Ambleside, which I have heard is a very charming town, but I have seen much better. It is chocked full of outdoor stores, it is hard to believe so many stores can even be supported by this population, but people literally travel here just to go shopping for outdoor equipment. There is even a Marmot store, we don't even have one of those in Seattle!
